Names Of The Game Names of the Game founder and USA Softball National Team Coach, Barbara Jordan, has joined with Worth/Rawlings and their Sci-Fly Technology to formulate a plan of rating the nation's top softball pitchers and players. Names of the Game's performance testing is designed to identify the top 100 recruits in the country. Initially, rankings will focus on the pitching and hitting categories. Testing sites will be scheduled at 8 separate locations over an 8 month period. Names of the Game Top 100 will be the sport of softball's first ranking system. Worth/Rawlings' Sci-Fly system will evaluate qualities such as speed of spin(pitching), angle of trajectory(pitching, hitting), location(pitching), degree of movement(pitching), overall ball speed(pitching, hitting), bat exit speed(hitting), and distance(hitting), to qualify the talents and skill levels of softball players. Names of the Game will kick off evaluation sites as early as August 2010 with an initial schedule being released in July. The plan is to select regional sites throughout the United States that will allow all athletes the opportunity to be tested and evaluated. Testing is available to players who are in eighth grade or above. "Anytime you can add objective information to opinions, you enhance the overall evaluation process. Worth/Rawlings has given Names of the Game the ability to utilize that invaluable objective information through the data and results we will be able to gather through the use of the Sci-Fly system," remarked Jordan. "Having the ability to assess talent using Sci-Fly as well as adding Club K to our process with some of the nation's top pitching coaches and teachers will enhance the overall experience of the athletes. This extraordinary process will let the athletes that participate, walk away with a valuable learning experience in addition to their one-of-a-kind evaluation." "For years, coaches have wondered what it takes for a pitcher to succeed. The primary objective test in fastpitch softball is the radar gun. Although useful, the radar gun is one dimensional and does not really address a primary success aspect of pitching - and that is movement," commented Club K owner, Cheri Kempf. "This can be a staple of evaluation for colleges, national teams, and professional ball clubs. The Sci-Fly data is true, accurate, and complete information that will greatly aid in the overall evaluation of players." Each participant's scores will be available confidentially for online viewing by qualified and registered college coaches and professional evaluators. Data collected from each evaluation site will be provided to each athlete following the testing. Additionally, at the conclusion of each performance evaluation, the NOTG Top 100 List will be updated. At the conclusion of the final clinic the top athletes will be named "Worth/Rawlings NOTG Athlete of the Year."
